Joint Statement

A JOINT-STATEMENT FROM BAREBACK BLOGGERS

We, the undersigned bareback bloggers, unify in this statement today.

We believe in the First Amendment and for all people to express themselves. We have chosen to express ourselves through these blogs.

The actions we take are our own and we believe, as consenting adults, we can enjoy the sexual relations in the manner which we choose.

If you find what we write about as offensive, wrong or immoral, we ask you not to read our blogs. If you follow us on Twitter and you consider what we write as offensive, wrong or immoral, we ask you to block each of us. None of our communications is required reading and we do not force it upon anyone.

Since each of us launched our blogs, we all have received vitriolic lies, terroristic bullying, and even death threats.

Our voices will not be silenced. We shall no longer tolerate further cyber harassment. We will not give these threats or statements a voice in our forums.

We thank our supporters. We thank our readers. We thank those who just ignore us and let us live our lives.

Sadly, this statement is specious, and smacks of the sort of thing the right wing(nuts) spew daily.

If your blogs were "members only", you'd have a point. But they're not. Instead, you publicly glorify activities that even Republicans realize are dangerous both to personal and public health.

The 1st Amendment works both ways. Be prepared to learn that, even if you'll never love it.

Yeah, I stopped reading IBlastInside because he's a stealther. So fair enough...stop reading the ones that offend us.

We stopped reading iBlasti too because of the way he stealthily/secretly barebacks. SOOOO wrong.

And yes, the 1st amendment goes both ways. Thanks for posting this statement; because YOU too DO have a write to voice your opinions. And I respect them.

Sk8rboi, I'm a big fan. But of all the BB bloggers, I would have thought you were tough enough to take whatever the world throws at you. What exactly does it mean that you "shall no longer tolerate" further cyber harassment? Can't you really just keep deleting and ignoring? Are you going to sue people for posting on an open forum? Are you forwarding the death threats to the police? I'm just curious... I've seen these kinds of complaints before but only on an individual basis. What kind of coordinated action can you take?

(And since you're the best writer in the lot, I'm actually disappointed you'd sign such a blandly worded "statement.")

Jeff,

I'll continue doing mostly as I have been doing for several months which is to screen comments before posting with most still getting posted. And that I only reluctantly did after receiving comments with physical threats. I raised some of the same questions you did about the statement. I view this effort as mainly one of sharing information about comments received. If there's a pattern or commonality in any threats, we should be able to see it. I expect to continue doing this blog as long as I have time to do it or have something to write. If and when it ends, it won't be because of any threats I've received.

I do agree that this is speech that should be protected, but I also think that criticisms should be welcomed. Obviously, most people do read this because they think the things you all write about are hot (and I am one of them). You can't sue someone unless the material is clearly defamatory, and even then, you would have a very weak cause of action.

However, there is also a reason why some guys read these blogs. For some people, the blogs (especially for the bugchasers) are a startling reminder to people that a lot guys lie about their HIV statuses. They are guys who take positive loads and then go right back and tell people that they are negative, when they are unsure of their status. What they do (especially Dan), in my opinion, is legally problematic and could really come back to bite them in the ass. In fact, it's this behavior that many jurisdictions treat as reckless endangerment with a dangerous weapon. It's this behavior that has thrown many men in jail (like it or not). I stopped reading that blog. I think those people have a right to voice their concerns about this movement while being respectful.
